Every camera and lens coming into the shop gets an operation check made of all functions as part of the evaluation of its working condition. The first thing done is a physical check of the externals and the film compartment. I’m looking for evidence of impact damage, sand, moisture or other damage. The rest of the inspection is instrumentation based and includes shutter speed and exposure meter testing, flash sync, flash wiring insulation, lens focus, lens diaphragm operation. Some of the testing is done with Mamiya factory test tools while other tests are carried out with Kyoritsu camera testing equipment and a Pearl Autocollimator. There are specific tests for particular cameras and these are described in the detailed articles for that model.
After a repair is completed the camera/lens are then tested again to insure that they are as close to factory specifications as possible.
